The quilt lends itself to either being used as a lap quilt or a wall hanging because of its size. I used a hemp and organic cotton blend fabric in its natural color for the background, so that the bull kelp would be highlighted. The appliques are cut from an organic cotton voile which is soft and somewhat opaque and used organic cotton batting between the layers. All the work is original, and hand sewn, with the background being inspired by the Hawaiian quilting method of echo quilting.
