The linen applique has a layer of organic cotton batting underneath, giving the applique extra depth. The wing and tail markings are hand embroidered. The applique is hand cut by the artist, then hand sewn using a running back stitch. The background is a lightweight blue linen The back of the pillow is the same fabric as the applique, with buttonholes and coconut shell buttons, so that the pillow cover can be removed for laundering.
